BIRDS THAT CAN NOT FLY

Have you ever dreamed of becoming the mythical phoenix, rising from the ashes? Have you ever imagined soaring above the rain forest as the mighty eagle?

For decades, people have pensively watched birds take wing and felt a bit jealous. But what about those birds that don’t fly? You’d think they would hold a rancor against their freewheeling brothers and sisters, but these guys are just marvelously incredible in their own right.

I would like to introduce to you now…FIVE BIRDS THAT CAN NOT FLY! These birds are just amazingly cute and awesome to serve its purpose in our endangered planet.

No list of flightless birds would be complete without the penguin. All 18 species of penguin are unable to fly, and are in fact better built for swimming and diving, which they spend the majority of their time doing.

Oh yes! Penguins love swimming! Their short legs and stocky build give them a distinctive waddling walk. These birds are  remarkably romantic—penguins are largely monogamous and seek out the same mates each season, even among the hundreds or even thousands of birds that might live in their colony.

According to research, almost all penguin species are native to the southern hemisphere, they are not found only in areas with cold climates, such as Antarctica.

In fact, only a few species of penguin live that far south. Several species are found in the temperate zone, and one species, the Galápagos penguin, lives near the Equator.

The largest living species is the emperor penguin known as Aptenodytes forsteri. On average, adults are about 1.1 m (3 feet 7 inches) tall and weigh 35 kg (77 pounds). The smallest penguin species is the little blue penguin called Eudyptula minor, also known as the fairy penguin, which stands around 33 cm (13 inches) tall and weighs 1 kg (2.2 pounds).

In general today, larger penguins inhabit colder regions, and smaller penguins inhabit regions with temperate or tropical climates. Some prehistoric penguin species were enormous. They are as tall or heavy as an adult human.
